Faster than Lite

“The U.S. Post Office introduces LiteBlue,
the next generation in employee communication.”

Faster than Lite

Please take note: it’s not light but rather lite
In USPS’s  brand new LiteBlue,
Which postal employees can use to write
Internet messages to—guess who?
Yes, their employer, the USPS.
LiteBlue is for postal employees only,
To communicate in seconds or less.
Whether they’re ballistic or just lonely,
They don’t have to resort to snail mail
Or worry about postage or zip codes,
Or postal inspectors putting them in jail,
Or dead letter offices on dead-end roads.
Whether north, south, east, west, or bi-costal,
LiteBlue stops them from going postal.

The Gift

Silent film star Louise Brooks in Pandora’s Box (1929)

The Gift

A gift which, as it was once thought,
Only the gods could give—
Who alone could untie the knot
Of who would and would not live.

It was from Pandora’s box
They unwrapped the wife,
Who is not the one who unlocks
The gift of eternal life.

Flight of the Condor

Flight of the Condor

How free they are to come and go,
Never too early or too late
To take in a really good show below,
And feed on carrion, tête-à-tête,
Or on an impulse take off for
Southern latitudes much more temperate,
Like surfers to some hang-ten shore
Or vacationing Eskimos to Kuwait.
Free as a bird, the old saying saying goes,
For earth-bound humans envy their flight.
Suspended aloft, acrobats on billows—
Through timeless vacuums shuttered like night—
They practice their aerial necromancy,
Their eerie, motionless flights of fancy.
